hello! <3

September 3, 2010

Hello! I just noticed how long it has been since I last posted something on here! I’ll try and put some new pictures up soon.

So my tadpoles have finally transformed into froggies! They are so cute and so tiny! I’ve identified them as Sierran Treefrongs, also called Baja California Treefrogs.

t is for tadpoles

May 12, 2010

I know this sounds mean, but I hate my cat Hazen. You know what he  did while I was in the shower the other day? He attacked  my tadpoles! Yeah, I couldn’t believe it! My dad walked by my room and saw him sitting on my desk. There was water everywhere, he ate their plant (eww!), drank almost half of their water (eww!), and ate one of them! To make things worse  I found one of the tadpoles practically dying on my desk!  It was like a tadpole massacre! I cried. I am glad to say, however, that the other two survived. (One has a bite in his tail, though.) To make up for their loss, I went to PetSmart that day, bought them a brand new tank (with a lid) and a new plant.

Now, for the good news the good news. So last week the tadpoles finally grew their back legs, and today I noticed that one of the tadpoles just got his front legs! I was so excited! It really did happen over night! Below are a few pictures of them at different stages…

Here’s a “new” car we got a couple of weekends ago… it’s a 1953 Pontiac Chieftain Catalina. You could definitely say that it needs a little elbow grease, but the old ads are very inspiring!

Hannah’s Bridal Shower

March 22, 2010

Hannah’s tea party-esque bridal shower at Emma’s house was a lot of fun! Hannah looked so pretty in her vintage dress and there were many different types of desserts. We got there just in time to play a game of “Do you have this in your purse?” Emma would call out things that you might have in your purse, a brush, mirror, sunscreen, iphone, address book, etc, and the person who had the most of the items called would win.

Last weekend I went to a preview of the new ECOSYSTEMS exhibits at California ScienCenter in Los Angeles. This project had one of the biggest seaweed orders my dad and grandpa have ever gotten! (They started working back in 2008!)
Around noon on Saturday my mom, dad, Grandpa Carl and I met up with Mindy’s husband Shawn outside. I think they did a great job with the exhibits. Not only are they informative but they are interactive and fun so that kids—and adults—can really learn something. There were eight different areas but even though we were there for five hours we didn’t have enough time to see everything. I am definitely planning on going back!

The seaweed in the foreground is real and the seaweed in the background is my dad and grandpa’s.

Here’s my mom in the tunnel. It was a miracle to get a shot without all the other people in it!

Outside you could see the big tank from the top..It was neat to see the divers climbing out.

Here’s a shot from the “L.A. Zone”. They had some great pictures!

Fruits of our Labor

March 12, 2010

Well…not exactly fruits, but how about vegetables? I’ve finally been able to pick and eat some of the veggies from my garden! Started late last year, my garden includes tomatoes, broccoci, lettuce, spinach, carrots, onion, strawberries, and potato. I planted most of them from seeds, however I bought the Spinach plant, someone gave us the tomato plant, and as for the potato, well for those I just stuck three potatoes into the ground. Did you know that if you plant a  potato, or at least the “eyes”, you’ll get a potato plant. It’s pretty amazing. It’s also kind of neat to see how some of them grow. Like broccoli, for example. I never knew how it grew! It actually has these really pretty yellow flowers which are a haven for bees.

Today I picked my first potato! Of course it was not fully grown, but I couldn’t help it. I have no patience and I seem to have a bad habit of digging  up my vegetables, looking at them, and them covering them up with dirt again…same goes with the carrots. I didn’t put this potato back—I plan on cooking it–however, It is so small that I could eat it in a bite or two!

A little gardening history…….In my U.S. History book I recently read about “Victory Gardens”. To overcome wartime shortages and to preserve resources for the military during World War 2, President Hoover asked Americans to plant “Victory Gardens”. In small towns and large cities, gardens were planted on any spare pece of land. (This included street corners, rooftops, flower boxes, school yards, ball fields, and vacant lots.)  People were also encouraged to eat less by participating in “meatless Mondays” and “wheatless Wednesdays”. Pretty neat! Well there was today’s history lesson.
